1. UZOECHI NWAGBARA - March 18, 2008

Any person interested in extending the frontiers of awareness regarding environmental devastation in Nigeria, particularly in the Niger delta, should utilise the opportunity this blog offers - by using it to project as well as propagate the evangelical message of Prof. Tanure Ojaide, who has unflaggingly used his art to illuminate our path concerning the terrible injustice the Nigerian government and the multinationals are doing in this part of the world. Tanure Ojaide, is a writer of immense capacity, imagination and forthrightness - all of these he has orchestrated through committing his artistic vocation to redefining the worth of the human person in the Niger delta area of Nigeria. His artistic predilection, which is largely advocacy of the rights of the minorities as well as humanist culture adumbrates resistance to environmental tyranny, democratic order and fair distribution of wealth coming from oil. I have joined this vanguard myself: my two volumes of poetry - Polluted Landscape, 2002 and On a Deathly Plain (forthcoming) add zest to Ojaide’s clarion call. These two books of mine are set in Niger delta; they both look at the plight of the minorities in the delta as well as the peril the ecology of this region is subjected to via the instrumentality of the powers that be. I must make haste to say that Tanure Ojaide’s artistic preoccupation is a flambeau to my creative endeavours in this direction - as well as other sources, though.
